How it Works

LET’S CHAT

Before Getting Tidy

We’ll begin with a complimentary 15-minute phone or video consultation. This is your chance to share your goals, challenges, and vision for your space. During the call, you’ll also show the areas you’d like to tidy, either through a short video tour or by sending photos in advance. This helps us understand your needs and tailor our approach.

CONFIRM YOUR PLAN

Moving Forward

If you decide to move forward, we’ll send our client agreement and request a non-refundable deposit to secure your first session. This deposit is applied to your initial working session and confirms your spot on our schedule. Once that’s complete, we’ll finalize details and prepare a customized plan for your space.

GETTING TIDY

Your First Session

At the start of each session, we’ll review your goals and outline the plan for the day. Together, we’ll sort and organize items within your chosen area, making decisions about what to keep, donate, or discard. The items you keep will be thoughtfully organized back into your space. Whenever possible, we’ll also help coordinate donation and recycling so you can focus on enjoying your refreshed environment.

MAINTAINING

Wrap Up + Next Steps

At the end of your project, we’ll walk you through your newly organized space and share practical tips to help maintain it. From there, we can discuss any follow-up sessions or ongoing maintenance support to keep your space feeling fresh and functional.

 FAQs

  • Our approach isn’t just about organizing; it’s about supporting people through change.

With a background in social work, Ilana understands that clutter rarely is just “stuff.” Belongings are often tied to big life transitions, grief, burnout, and the simple emotional weight of letting go.

Ilana’s style is rooted in systems that are realistic and sustainable, not just cosmetic.

  • We approach every project with empathy and professionalism. Your space — and your story — remain completely confidential. We are here to create calm, not to judge.

  • It’s ideal to be present for at least part of the first session so we can understand your routines and preferences. After that, we can discuss what level of involvement feels best for you.

  • Session times are flexible and are designed to fit your routine. If a project requires additional sessions, weekly or biweekly sessions are ideal for steady progress.

  • As tempting as a trip to The Container Store or Homegoods may be, please hold. Once we’ve pared things down, we’ll have a clear picture of what truly needs storing. Many clients find they already have what they need. If not, we’ll guide you toward simple, functional solutions that fit your space beautifully.

  • “Ilana made reorganizing my pantry and refrigerator look effortless. She created intuitive systems that I’ve been able to maintain with almost no effort. Throughout the process she was kind and encouraging. The end result is a kitchen that feels calm, efficient, and joyful to use. Hiring her was one of the best investments I’ve made in my home.”

    Chris M., Retired Non-Profit Professional

  • “Working with Ilana to tackle my decade-neglected closet was game-changing. She made me feel completely comfortable and empowered with every decision throughout the process. Her patient guidance and support turned an overwhelming project into something I could actually handle. I was finally able to see and understand what I had and didn’t have after years of chaos, and she helped me create a system that actually works for my life.”

     Carrie W., Chief Operating Officer

  • “Ilana helped me organize my kitchen cabinets and a bedroom closet. She was incredibly supportive in helping me let go of items, and gently but realistically nudged me to get rid of expired items. For the kitchen especially, I've had better access to healthy food, and it's easier to find key ingredients. I think about her great work almost daily!"

     Laura G., Consultant

  • “After seven years of talking about wanting to organize my walk-in closet, she finally helped me put it on the calendar. It truly felt like a joint effort — she made me feel like I was in the lead while she gently supported me. I never felt pressured or directed; instead, we created a plan together that made the whole process feel manageable. Her calm presence and encouragement made such a difference and gave me the motivation I needed to finally tackle this project. Her support was incredible, and my closet is now so much more organized and manageable.”

    Sarah C., Events Manager

With over 15 years of experience as a fundraiser, consultant, and project manager in both the federal government and private sector, Ilana brings a  balance of strategy and empathy to the spaces she organizes. As the founder and lead organizer of The Tidy Era, Ilana believes that thoughtful organization is not simply about creating order — it’s about cultivating emotional well-being, clarity, and focus which then trickle into every facet of life.

Ilana’s background spans local and national programs where she has guided meaningful initiatives, managed complex projects, and built strong partnerships across diverse teams. Her thoughtful approach to problem-solving—grounded in clarity, empathy, and purpose—shapes every aspect of her organizing philosophy.

With a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and a degree in English from Davidson College, Ilana approaches each project with good humor, thoughtful curiosity, and deep compassion. Her volunteer work supporting individuals navigating grief has further shaped her understanding of how our environments can both reflect and restore our inner lives and how meeting people where they are is paramount.

Through The Tidy Era, Ilana helps clients move from clutter to clarity — transforming spaces into calm, functional environments that feel light, intentional, and deeply personal. She believes that when our surroundings support who we are and where we’re going, we create room not just for things, but for energy, purpose, and peace of mind.
